  • Typical Work Activities:

    • Conduct legal research on tax regulations, statutes, and case law.
    • Assist in preparing legal documents, including tax advice and opinions.

    • Collaborate with senior lawyers on tax matters, contributing insights and research findings.
    • Review client records and financial statements to identify potential tax issues or opportunities.
    • Assist in the preparation and submission of tax returns, including individual, corporate, and estate tax returns.
    • Attend client meetings and consultations with senior lawyers to gather insight on how to gather relevant information and provide initial legal guidance.
    • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in tax laws and regulations that may impact client cases.
    • Support in drafting correspondence, client communications, and legal documents as required.
    • Assist in the preparation of presentations and training sessions related to tax law topics.

    Key Attributes:

    • Bachelor’s degree in law (graduate or undergraduate), with a strong focus and interest in commercial law, taxation and business generally.
    • A second degree in commerce is preferred, but not mandatory.
    • Excellent research skills and the ability to analyze complex legal issues.
    • Strong understanding and/or interest of tax legislation, regulations, and case law.
    • Familiarity with accounting principles and financial statements.
    • Proficiency in legal research databases and tools.
    • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
    • Attention to detail and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
    • Ethical and professional conduct, with a commitment to client confidentiality.

  • Typical Work Activities:

    • Opening and preparing new files in accordance with the firms file opening procedures, including creating the physical and/or electronic file in LEAP.
    • Undertaking the full suite of residential and commercial conveyancing transactions, from beginning to finish.
    • Drafting correspondence, special conditions, contracts and vendor’s statements.
    • Liaising with clients and other parties such as real estate agents, brokers, banks and developers in a professional and polite manner ensuring the firm’s brand is promoted in a positive way and to maintain strong relationships with referrers.
    • Understanding of stamp duty exemptions/concessions and foreign investment review board requirements an advantage.
    • Preparing invoices (including management of invoices sent to clients).

    Key Attributes:

    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
    • Knowledge of LEAP, DocuSign, PEXA or similar eConveyancing program
    • Excellent time management skills and ability to multi-task and prioritise work to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy. (Essential).
    • Fast and accurate keyboard skills. (Essential).
    • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
    • Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills with the ability to keep track of critical dates, identify tasks which need to be done, establish priorities and schedule appointments and settlements and ensure that follow up systems are in place.
